One may well say that both Old and New Testaments and the hymnography, prayers, and other liturgical texts of the Holy Orthodox Church, together, comprise the Sacred Scripture of the Church of Christ. It is readily demonstrated that the prayers, hymns, and read[1]ings in the Sacred Services of the Orthodox Church copiously incorporate words, phrases, whole verses, entire chapters, and even complete books directly drawn from both Old and New Testaments, presented literally as they appear in Scripture, with usage, exegesis, understanding, and teaching fully consistent with the original texts’ intent and, so, with the doctrines of the Church.

Faithful adherence to this paramount premise of dual consistency, literal and doctrinal, is manifested in the Church’s Services and texts in the well-established, historical Orthodox Churches around the world. Therefore, it finally also must come to be so for the Church in the English-speaking countries. One purpose, then, for which this present book of citations was compiled is precisely to prove and to emphasize strongly (with corrected text) this fundamental principle and to urge and to underscore the need for the application of this principle across all of the Church’s English-language scriptural and liturgical texts.

Further, it is the contention of the compiler of this book that only the Holy Orthodox Church has an actual life and worship completely infused with and so super-abundantly immersed and rich in the Holy Bible. Thus, the other purpose for which this present book of citations was compiled is to make this point obvious and to instill awe, reverence, and spiritual fervor for the Divine Liturgy, the timeless Sacred Service of the Holy Eucharist, the Service exemplar of the divine majesty and biblical sanctity of the liturgical life of the Orthodox Church.
